Realism

Story of an Hour-
This story is an good example of Realism because it describes how she felt after she found out that her husband was dead. She wasn't sad she Went up stairs and sat in a chair in front of the window she could hear birds chirping and she could see the clouds forming together and she could smell the rain. So in the way that she was describing what was going on outside you could tell that she had no sympathy for her husband dying. DQ- She could see in the open square before her house the tops of trees that were all aquiver with the new spring life. The delicious breath of rain was in the air. In the street below a peddler was crying his wares. The notes of a distant song which some one was singing reached her faintly, and countless sparrows were twittering in the eaves. The reason this is considered as being Realism is because Kate is giving you the most specific details on how Louise is feeling like in my direct quote on how she was enjoying what was going on outside and the fact that her husband had just passed didn't even phase her.

The Social Issue-
The Social Issue was that she wanted to solve was that she wanted women to be treated the same way that men were but if not the same then at least equally. That men shouldn't be able to tell women what they can and can't do and besides have children and clean. DQ- There would be no one to live for during those coming years; she would live for herself. There would be no powerful will bending hers in that blind persistence with which men and women believe they have a right to impose a private will upon a fellow-creature. This is realism because Kate Chopin wanted her readers to see what goes on in an average womans life and she wanted them to make a change after they have read what she wrote.

The Battle with Mr. Covey-
He gives details about how the blood was making his hair mat up and how he had thorns in his feet from running from Mr. Covey and when he fell in the bushes and how he had blood running down his face and how his shirt was dusty from falling in the woods.DQ- The blood was yet oozing from the wound on my head. For a time I thought I should bleed to death, and think now that I should have done so, but the blood so matted my hair as to stop the wound. The reason that this is considered realism is because Fredrick is giving us details on how he is bleeding so much that his hair is matting up. The reson he is giving us many details is because he wants us to realize or maybe even feel how is feeling after Mr. Covey beat him.

The Social Issue-
Fredrick Douglass wants to stop slavery. He figured that he would let Mr. Covey beat him and then go to his master and let him see how Mr. Covey was treating him so that would give him a good reason to go to Mr. Hughes but Mr. Hughes didn't react the way that he thought he would. Mr. Hughes told him that he belonged to Mr. Covey because he had a lot of money on him and that he didn't believe that Mr.Covey would do something like that. DQ- After receiving this blow my head grew bigger and at this moment I resolved to go to my master. The reason that this is realism because Fredrick Douglass wants people who have never witnessed slavery to wittness what he went through and see how much they would like for someone to do the things to them that Mr. Covey has done to him.

Gossip

Gossip starts in the craziest ways possible. It starts by maybe hanging with the wrong crowd or maybe even by being seen with a boy. Gossip is everywhere but is mainly known to be in schools. It has had a big effect at Classic City High school a school where gossip shouldn’t even be or even be thought about.

Gossip is harmful to the Classic City High School environment. One reason it is harmful to school environment is because it causes people to fight. Fighting is not tolerated at this school. People who fight lose their spot in school, and then they have a choice to either go back to their old school or drop out. So Gossiping causes people to lose a chance to get an education.
Some students get to the point to where they are fed up with gossip and they just decide not to go back to school.

For example, there was this girl who had gotten talked about so much that it had gotten to the point to where she was tired of people talking about her because she wasn’t the fighting type of female. She was the type that just let problems dissolve on their own, but these people kept talking about her and teachers weren’t really that big of help so she got so fed up with it that she just stopped coming to school.
The next reason that it happens to be harmful is because it ruins students’ school concentration. It makes them lose focus on what they are supposed to be doing. Say someone has a big math test coming up and then all of a sudden some people come in their face about some he say she say stuff, and they are all worried about who said what; and when they said it. Then it comes time to take the test and they fail it.
Once i had a big test to take in my literature class. Right before I had gotten into my class someone called my name. I said, "what" and then she said, "I heard that you been talking about me." I was looking at her like she was crazy, and I asked her that big question. "WHO TOLD YOU THAT?" Then she told me not to worry about that, so I told her, "Don’t worry about if I have been talking about you or not," and I left it at that. The reason this is harmful to the school environment is because when students are at school the only thing they need concentrate on is your schoolwork.
When I got in class, I got a tardy because I had been out in the hallway talking about something that had no relation to my schoolwork. While I was taking my test, I wasn’t able to concentrate. I was so worried about who had told her I had been talking about her, because someone went and told a lie on me.
Another way gossip is harmful to the school environment is that it ruins students’ reputations, and their friendships. How might you ask? When people come telling students lies about who someone is dating then that big question comes out: "Who told you that?" That’s when all the lies start floating around. An example of how gossiping ruins friendships is when someone comes back and tells you that your "SUPPOSED TO BE BESTFRIEND" has been talking about you. Then you go and confront your best friend about it, and she gets all upset at you because you would believe what someone who loves to start trouble has to say.
I am here at Classic City because I was involved in too much drama at my old school, and I wasn’t getting any kind of work done because I was so caught up with why people were talking about me and why people were telling lies on me. When I came for my interview at this school, the first thing the principal told me was that we do not tolerate any of that drama and fighting. When he told me that, I was glad. I knew right then that I would get a lot of work done at this school. Even though it’s not tolerated over here, people walk in the door with drama on their minds and are ready to start spreading it like wildfire.
If you take the time to stop and think about it, then you would figure that there is no need for gossip. All it does is ruin your life, especially if you are young, and as you grow up, people look at you as that little trouble maker or just a little gossip queen and that makes a person feel bad. If you don’t want to lose your spot in school, or be seen as that type of person who likes to be in middle of drama tell whoever is trying to start drama to take it some where else because Classic City High is not the place for gossip.

Dark Romanticism

Herman Melville- No he was not pure because he wasn't using his own mind. He was possessed by the evilness and they told him to kill the whale and the men aboard his ship and he did as he was told.

Edgar Allen Poe- Poe would be against it also because he also goes with what his mid tells him and not what he tells himself. The evilness was telling him to hang that cat and take its eye out so he did it and was crying while doing it. And if he had of been going with his one instinct then he wouldn't have done it anyway.

I could see myself as a trascendentalist because if i thought about killing someone or even harmign someone i would ask myself why do i want to do this? Do i have a good reason for this? and many other questions like that.

The book i chose to read was Black Cat and the way i think that this book proves to be part of Dark Romanticism is because in this book the man felt that he was possessed by evilness. But at first he was just an ordinary man who loved animals, he got married to a woman that loved animals as much as he did. Then all of a sudden he had became an alcoholic and had started neglecting his animals, all except one his cat Pluto. But one day he came home drunk and picked the cat up by his neck and the cat bit him the reason he picked the cat up like that was because he felt that the cat was neglecting him. So his evilness told him to take the cat eye out because it had bit him. But while he was taking the cat eye out he was crying, it was like he had feelings but his mind had been taken over by some evil spirits so he had no idea what he was doing. Then he hung the cat just because the evil spirits had told him to and while he was hanging the cat he was crying. But after he hung the cat his house had burned down so he went back to see what damages were done to his house and as he walked around he saw that the wall where his headboard of his bed was was still up and then he saw shadow of the cat the he had hung. So he had told hisself that he would stop drinking but it didn't last long because he ended up at a bar where he ad saw another cat that looke just like the one he had killed. So it followed him home and when they got to his house the cat fell in love with his wife but once he became sober he started to realize that he didn't really like that cat and that it had a white spot on its chest. So he tried to his best so saty away from yhe cat but it continued to follow him where ever he went so it had got to the point where he want to punch the cat but he didn't. So one day he was cleaning up their cellar and he had got an wxe and was about to kill the cat but his wife stopped him and he killed her by hitting her in the head with the axe. So after he killed her her he put her in the wall of the cellar so that nobody could tell that she was even dead. And then the police came and searched his house and he started telling on hisself and they took the wall down and found that he had put the cat in the wall also with his wife.

The way this realtes to Dark Romanticism:
Evilness is one of the main characteritics of mankind.

Raven-
I think in this poem Poe was trying his best to be a trascendatlist because he was asking the bird all types of questions about his wife dying and why he kept coming to his window. But i think deep down inside that he wanted to kill the bird because it wouldn't tell him what he wanted to know. The part that stuck out to me was that the bird wouldn't leave when he asked him to

Direct Quote:
"But the Raven sitting lonely on the placid budt spoke only that one word as if his soul in that one word he did outpour nothing farther then he uttered not a feather then he fluttered till i scarcely more than muttered other friends have flown befire on the morrow he will leave me as my hopes have flown before."
Then the bird said nevermore.
